Black Chicken Remedies is an Australian based, totally natural skin care company that harnesses the power of nature to create remedial products. When I first heard the name I though it was a little odd however upon reading their story it totally makes sense. They don’t care about beauty trends, just care about what’s good for the skin, what a great philosophy.
How it all began
Chey Birch, Founder of Black Chicken Remedies, suffered for years with irritated skin and upon visiting a naturopath, had a good look at all the toxins in her life. She found the ingredients in the products she was using were borderline toxic. She started to mix her own essential oils and therapeutic botanical extracts in a little bowl with a black chicken painted on it. She used the highest quality natural and organic ingredients she could find and kept the product as an oil so she didn’t need to add uneccesssary preservatives or binding agents. After a while her symptoms disappeared and friends began asking if she could bring ‘the black chicken’ to their homes.
“We don’t make skincare products with the intention to look, smell or feel good; it’s created to make a difference on a physical, mental and emotional level. After all, that’s what a true remedy does.”
Black Chicken Remedies’ philosophy is to honour all life. All the ingredients are designed to complement your body’s own healing intelligence. The products are 100% natural, contain certified organic ingredients and are free of chemicals, fillers, perfumes and dyes. The brand is drawn from ancient legends and sacred traditions. The brand pays homage to the community healers and vital forces of nature and life everywhere in all its forms.
“When products are free of toxins, they are harm free. We believe the more we respect and honour mother nature and all the earth’s inhabitants, the more effort will go into growing and protecting our precious natural resources. You have the power to effect change for good every time you make a choice. Supporting brands that enhance your wellbeing and that of the planet is a wiser long-term investment for all of us.”
What an amazing philosophy to live by and it’s refreshing to find more brands that have this such high ethical and responsible values. Read more about this brands stance on life here.

I have been using this in various ways over the last few weeks. My elbows get really dry and they always need a little extra attention so I have been using this on them. It has really made a difference and they have been feeling much more supple. I also got bitten many times on my travels and this helped relieve the itching and calm the skin. It is also great for my really dry, cracked lips. I seem to have horribly dry chapped lips all year round and they get even worse in winter and this has really helped. I can’t wait to see how they are in Winter when I am using this on them. The balm is a traditional balm colour and texture and is lightly fragranced. This product really is a miracle in a tin!

These are fantastic natural, organic products well worth trying. These two products really made a difference to my skin and I love the brand philosophy. I think it’s become increasingly important to read and understand a brand, their philosophy, their ethics as well as use their products. You don’t want to help profit a brand which is harming animals or the environment. They have been voted the best skincare band in Australia and I can see why. They can be purchased in the UK from Cult Beauty.
