I am aware this is late as we are already in the second month of 2017. I am usually so organised, however sometimes things just lapse and I have had a lot to deal with recently. I have a lot of things I want to achieve and try this year andthere is some overlap with my 5 lifestyle change I want to make post. I have broken this down into three main sections and there’s another post next week with small steps I want to take.
Health and wellbeing
I am not going into too much detail in this section as these were some of my aims last year (My Body Shame). Snack less and if need to snack, try and stick to healthy snacks like nuts. I want to make sure I always carry some around with me in my handbag too.
I want to only have a main meal if I go out for dinner so I do not over eat. Basically I need to have more will power and not resort to eating bad food out of boredom and stress.
I need to never go shopping when hungry and continue to exercise at least three times a week. I want to try and walk more and try and incorporate walking in my lifestyle so it becomes part of the everyday. I walk at least twice a week during my lunchtime. I also practice meditation more and I am doing well with my regular semi-digital detox so will continue with this. I will also continue to make some “me time” and learn to relax more.
If I want to improve my finances then I need to make some serious sacrifices. The book, “The Year of No Spend,” has really inspired me although I am not going to those extremes (book review coming soon). This means no quick snacks or Costa/Starbucks while out and about running errands. If out all day then get a proper healthy lunch if possible (but try to take something with me – food that won’t go bad if in my handbag for a few hours and some fruit, cheese, crackers) and carry nuts to curb any cravings. I started this already when I was in the Watford shopping centre, I really wanted a hot chocolate, it was cold outside and I was going to drink it walking home however I refrained and I then had a hot drink when I got home instead. I realise this is one small step but I am hoping lots of these small steps will make a difference.
Money Matters & Social Outings
Money can be an awkward topic with friends and family, especially when they have different circumstances to you. I am aware sometimes I will just have to say I cannot attend something as I will not always be able to explain the circumstances. I still want to be social and still want to see family and friends so I will try meeting up for drinks when I can and not just go out for dinners and I will also have to prioritise. If I am going to dinner then I’ll set a budget of £10.00 (so only a main meal). The best way to stay in control of this is to only take £10 cash with me and leave my cards at home. This way there is no risk of being tempted. This also helps me not to overeat, so it’s a win win. I have already done this a few times with some friends and they have been really supportive. I am going to try meeting at each other houses, take it in turns; this also eliminates the extra spending too. I will try and limit dinners to once a month and it’s nice to spread things out rather than having too much going on one month and nothing for the next.
Money Matters & Shopping
I am determined not to spend anything on beauty, skincare, make up purchases unless absolutely necessary. I am going to try and use up everything I have down to the last drop of perfume! I will allow myself waxing, haircuts and the like as I still want to maintain my appearance, but will continue with Groupon ones and try and win competitions for haircuts and other services.
I also need to be very strict when thinking about other purchases like stationery, clothes, handbags and the like. I will use vouchers and discounts whenever I can. If I do no really need it I must not buy it. I will be entering more competitions to win the things I need, and things I can review, as the priority is to not spend.
Laugh Live and Love
Even though I am determined to save and live healthy I still want to enjoy myself and have fun so here’s a list of some things I will continue to do as they make me happy (apart from the obvious one of spending time with family and friends):
- Random Acts of Kindness
- Voluntary work
- Holidays and city breaks
- Writing and sending cards to my penpals
- Taking part in fun and creative projects like #InCoWriMo and #The100DayProject (writing a letter, card, note every day for the month of Febraury
- Writing to One Million Love Letters
- More photography on Instagram
- Theatre and fun workshops
- Anything else creative I stumble across
Again I will try and win experiences and tickets whenever I can and look for lots of free activities. I want to get involved in more creative projects. I also consciously want to laugh more so watching more funny comedies is a must. Did you know there is also laughter yoga available for those in need?
I know some of these changes will be hard to implement and there will be times I will miss out on fun nights out and activities, however I need things to change if I want to get to where I need to be. The sacrifices have to be made and these ones aren’t even too extreme! What are your aim and goals for this year? Is there anything in particular you want to do? What changes do you want to make? Why don’t you take a look at my 5 lifestyle change I want to make and last years Aims, Changes and Challenges post.
